Germany became the first country to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Monday with Timo Werner scoring twice in a 4-0 win away to North Macedonia. Germany dominated throughout against the side who inflicted only a third-ever World Cup qualifying defeat against them at home in March. But they needed until the second half to make the breakthrough. Kai Havertz tapped into an empty net to cap a fine counter-attack in the 50th minute to break the North Macedonian resistance. The lively Werner then smashed a quick-fire brace before teenager Jamal Musiala completed the rout with his first senior international goal. Germany have 21 points from eight games before concluding the campaign in November at home to Liechtenstein and away to Armenia, who are now fourth on 12 points. Romania, on 13, are best-placed to secure second and the play-off spot but North Macedonia, above Armenia on goal difference, are also in contention. Havertz said in an interview that,  “We have now qualif...

Tyson Fury proved himself to be the best heavyweight in the world again on Saturday after he defeated Deontay Wilder in an all-time classic title fight. The ‘Gypsy King’ scored a knockout victory in the 11th round and retained his WBC heavyweight title in the process. It’s believed he’ll be ordered to face mandatory challenger, Dillian Whyte, next. Should he defeat Whyte or skip the fight entirely, and should Oleksandr Usyk retain in his rematch with Anthony Joshua early next year, Fury could be on a collision course with the Ukrainian for the undisputed title fight, writes Alex McCarthy of talksport.com. If that ends up happening, retired former two-weight world champion Andre Ward believes Usyk could not defeat Fury. “He’s not going to beat Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury is just not some big lumbering guy. He’s skillful; he can fight,” Ward told Behind The Gloves when asked about his thoughts on Fury fighting IBF/WBA/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title. “It’s just too much m...

MURIC Director, Ishaq Akintola The Director and Founder of the Muslim Rights Concern, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Monday urged Nigerians not to jump to conclusions over the viral video of some madrasa students being brutally flogged in Kwara State. Although he noted that the punishment meted out to the students was ‘too harsh’, Akinsola said that those condemning the brutal flogging encourage their children to participate in the Big Brother Naija show.  Akintola aired his views in a statement released on MURIC‘s website where he urged the public to allow the state government to investigate the matter.  The statement read in part, “While we regard the punishment meted out to the students as too harsh, we maintain that the action of the school authorities should not be judged in isolation. The fact that the parents requested the school to discipline their children must not be ignored. “MURIC is also in possession of another video in which the students confessed that they engage...

Mohamed Salah Mohamed Salah netted a brilliant solo goal for Liverpool in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City at the weekend and moved closer to overtaking as the leading African scorer in the English Premier League. Retired Ivory Coast great Drogba bagged 104 goals in two spells with Chelsea while Salah lifted his total to 103 with a wonderful goal against City at Anfield. While scoring is second nature to the Egyptian, Ghanaian Iddrisu Baba claimed his first for Real Mallorca in his 102nd appearance for the La Liga outfit.

Cristiano Ronaldo  Alex Ferguson has added to the growing pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by criticising the Manchester United manager’s decision to use Cristiano Ronaldo as a substitute against Everton. Solskjaer surprisingly left Ronaldo on the bench for the first 57 minutes of Saturday’s damaging 1-1 draw at Old Trafford. United were leading 1-0 when the Portugal star was introduced, but Andros Townsend equalised to leave Solskjaer’s misfiring team with only one win in their past four games in all competitions. Ronaldo has been in fine form since rejoining United, scoring five times in his first six games, including the late winner against Villarreal three days before the Everton match. The 36-year-old looked frustrated, muttering to himself and shaking his head when he walked off the pitch at full-time on Saturday. Solskjaer was already under fire after...

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has clarified the reason why he will receive COVID-19 vaccine. He disclosed this on Friday night during the monthly Holy Ghost Service programme of the church at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.  Pastor Adeboye said during his Address to thousands of his members, "God’s mercies have kept Nigerians all along, noting that only those whose time to die had come died".  He further explained that, “I have never said to you, ‘Don’t be vaccinated.’ You’ve never heard that from me. Rather than live in fear or doubt, get vaccinated. If you believe that getting vaccinated will put your mind at rest, then go ahead. “Daddy, are you saying that you too could be vaccinated? If there are nations in the world that say that I cannot come to preach the gospel there because of vaccination, I will do anything for Jesus Christ. "If vaccination or no vaccination is going to hinder me from ...
