Nawa o – Man sentenced to jail for raping 19years old physically challenged Teenage girl.
An Apapa Magistrate Court sitting in Lagos State, on Thursday remanded a
27-year-old man, Michael Ubani, in Kirikiri prison for allegedly raping and
stealing from a 19-year-old physically challenged girl.
The State Police Command arraigned Ubani, on a three-count charge of
rape, assault and stealing.
During proceedings, police prosecutor, Sergeant Olusegun Kokoye told the
court that the accused committed the offences on June 5 at his residence at
Olodi Apapa area of the state.
Kokoye informed the court that the victim was sleeping in her apartment
when Ubani forcefully entered her room and committed the offence.
He said, “The complainant said that the accused dragged her to the floor
and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.
“She said that the accused also stole the N3,000 she kept in her
wardrobe.
“The complainant said Ubani was apprehended by their neighbour who heard
her screaming for help.
“The complainant reported the case to the police and Ubani was arrested
and taken to the police station for further questioning.”
Kokori said the offences committed by Ubani contravened Sections 172,
287 and 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
When the charges were read, the 27-year-old pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, M. A. Etti, said Ubani should remain in
custody pending when his bail application would be considered.
The Magistrate consequently adjourned the matter till June 27 for
mention.
