Didier Drogba set to replace Emenalo
Who will replace Michael Emenalo?
The international break has been busy at Chelsea.
It was announced at the start of the week that Michael Emenalo has left his post as Chelsea’s technical director.
Emenalo may have been at Chelsea for over a decade, but he was unknown to many Chelsea fans.
Nevertheless, the 52-year-old former Chelsea technical director played a huge role at Stamford Bridge in recent times.
Along with Marina Granovskaia, Emenalo has been in charge of Chelsea’s recruitment in recent years. And the Blues have undoubtedly prospered in that time.
Since he joined the Blues in 2007, Chelsea have scooped up eight major trophies. It’s also true that Chelsea’s academy is now comfortably the most successful in the country.
On Tuesday, the London Evening Standard claimed that Marina Granovskaia is considering taking over Emenalo’s responsibilities.
Didier Drogba’s Chelsea return
The situation behind the scenes at Chelsea is picked up in the Guardian on Wednesday.
Leaving the issue of a direct successor to Michael Emenalo to one side, the Guardian have reported that club legend Didier Drogba has already lined up a significant job at Stamford Bridge:
Didier Drogba, the player-owner of Phoenix Rising in the US, intends to become that club’s sporting director once he retires from playing and it is unclear whether he would be in a position to rejoin Chelsea in the near future.
As the sporting director, Didier Drogba would play a huge role in Chelsea’s future transfer plans.
The move seems incredibly savvy, as Drogba should be able to lure top talent to west London thanks to his amazing record in the game.
For the record, the 39-year-old Ivorian icon is out of contract at the end of November.
